About the Department

The Labor Department serves as the regulatory and advisory backbone of the Sidaama Region Labor and Skills Bureau. Our mandate is to enforce labor laws, promote decent work conditions, mediate industrial disputes, and foster social dialogue between employers, workers, and government. We are committed to ensuring that every worker in the region enjoys their fundamental rights — including fair wages, occupational safety, social protection, and freedom of association.

Through labor inspections, legal aid, collective bargaining facilitation, and policy development, we work tirelessly to prevent exploitation, reduce informal work vulnerabilities, and build a culture of compliance and mutual respect in workplaces. Our vision is a labor market where productivity goes hand in hand with dignity and justice for all.

In the last year, our department resolved 340 labor disputes with an 85% settlement rate, conducted 1,200 workplace inspections, and trained 450 HR managers on fair employment practices. We aim to achieve 100% formal registration of enterprises with over 10 employees by 2027, reducing labor rights violations by 50%.
