About the Department

The Job Opportunity Creation and Development Department is the engine of employment coordination within the Sidaama Region Labor and Skills Bureau. We are mandated to design, coordinate, and implement evidence-based strategies that expand quality job opportunities for youth, women, and vulnerable groups. By bridging labor supply and demand, fostering public-private dialogue, and scaling innovative employment models, we aim to reduce unemployment and underemployment across the region.

Our department works hand-in-hand with government bodies, private sector actors, cooperatives, and development partners to promote decent work, wage employment, and entrepreneurship pathways. Through labor market intelligence, job fairs, skills matching, and employment subsidies, we ensure that every citizen has a fair chance to contribute to Sidaama's economic transformation.

In the past fiscal year, the department facilitated over 8,500 direct job placements, supported 120 micro-enterprises in accessing startup grants, and contributed to a 12% reduction in youth unemployment across pilot woredas. Our ambition: to create 25,000 decent work opportunities by 2028 through innovative employment ecosystems.
